All new price for annual payments in 2013! Your membership to the Ice Society costs $299 (USD) for one year (Usually $365 - Save $66). Less than a dollar a day!

In 2013 we have introduced a "pay monthly" option for 12 months for a 1 year commitment.
The cost is $30 per month with a 1 year commitment ($360 in total).

No. You will have the option to renew your membership every year. You will be reminded that your membership needs renewing 1 month, 2 weeks and 1 week before your membership expires.

Annual Payments - Visa, MasterCard, American Express and Discover cards accepted.
Monthly Payments - Visa and MasterCard cards accepted.
*We do not accept American Express and Discover cards for the monthly payment option.

Your one year membership to the Ice Society includes access to all of the previous chapters in our library.  It also includes the new chapters that will be released over the next twelve months.  Ice Society members also can submit an album, a folio of images or a single image to us so that Jerry can anonymously critique it in the “Advice” category each month.  Your membership also entitles you to a 10% discount on all purchases through our Products Store and a 10% discount on registration to any five day workshop.

A new chapter is released on the first day of every month (USA Pacific standard time).

Simply log in and click on the “My Account” link in the top right corner of the homepage.  Or you can also click on the “My Hub” link on the top left corner of the page.

Yes!  We are very excited about this new feature in the latest version of the Ice Society.  You can easily browse the Ice Society and even view all of the videos from your mobile device or iPad.

Our videos are meant for viewing exclusively on the Ice Society. Your membership entitles you to instant access to exclusive content that is not available to the public. Unfortunately, this means disallowing downloading and sharing of videos outside of the Ice Society site.

We’re thrilled that you’d like to submit your images to be anonymously critiqued by Jerry in our "Advice" section within each chapter. Simply go to the "Critiques" section and load up your photos. We've also given you several options for critiques, including a single photo, a folio of images or a full album.

Each month, Melissa will select a random submission from the album, folio and single image categories and will prepare them for Jerry to critique.  Jerry never knows whose work he is critiquing and does not even look at the images before he begins his critique – just like in an actual competition environment.

Please note that not all uploads will be critiqued.

Please consider your membership carefully before purchasing it as there is no refund available once your payment has been processed.

Absolutely.  If you hear about a sale or have a promo code, you can use it anytime you’d like – even if your membership is not up for renewal.  Simply click on the "My Account" link in the top right corner of the homepage.  Or you can also click on the "My Hub" link on the top left corner of the page.  Your membership will then be extended one year from its original expiration date.

Once your membership expires you will only have access to the free chapter.  Unfortunately, you will not be able to access any previous chapters. One way of looking at a membership to the Ice Society is that it's similar to a gym membership.  You typically sign up for a gym membership for a year at a time and at the end of the year, if you don't renew then you also unfortunately don't have access to the facilities either.  We’ll miss you if you go, though, so we hope that you decide to renew instead!

Well, since there is new material that is released each and every month and because you always still have access to all of the past chapters as well, your membership actually becomes more and more valuable the longer you have it because you have that much more exposure and time to practice what you're learning.  Someone who signs up today wouldn't be as advanced as someone who has had 3 years to practice everything they've been learning on the Ice Society each month.

A big part of the week is when Jerry critiques the images that everyone has been asked to bring in.  Those images are usually best if they are from a wedding, or from a portrait session.  If you haven't photographed anything a wedding or session yet, our strong recommendation would be to ask to assist or second shoot for another photographer, or to set up several portraits sessions for yourself (even if they aren't paid) before then.  That way you'll have something for Jerry to look at, critique, and even more importantly - you'll also have first hand experience of some common mistakes or struggles most photographers have to deal with in those sessions.

We will all have a light dinner together on the first evening and we will be providing that.  Lunches and dinners for the rest of the week are all on your own.

We can definitely help you with that!  Just send us an email at info@icesociety.com and we’ll reply with an answer very soon.

This is a great way to save money while telling other people about the Ice Society! Whenever someone purchases a membership using your affiliate code, we will automatically add an additional month to your own membership.  If, for example, you were to refer twelve people a year to the Ice Society, you would not have to pay for your own membership since you would have received twelve free months.  In addition to that, when you have referred a total of 50 people to the Ice Society, you will automatically receive a free lifetime membership to the Ice Society.  Thanks for spreading the word about the Ice Society!

Workshops

All of our 5 days workshops are limited to only 20 people. This allows the most intensive hands on experience possible.  Unfortunately, though, it also means that spaces fill up pretty quickly once we release a new workshop.

Typically, all of the photographers who will be at the workshop will be professional photographers already, but their levels of experience will vary. There will be some people there that have been in business for 5 or 10 years already, but there may also be people who are literally just starting out.  If you are just starting out then you may actually be in the best position to come to the workshop and build a perfect foundation for the business you want to create.  Just bear in mind, that it’ll be important for you to already have a good handle on your skills as a photographer.  If you won't be held back by lack of experience, for example, (or more specifically lack of knowledge as to how your camera functions) then you will be in a great position to learn more about posing and lighting and also all of the business skills that Jerry will be teaching.  Some photographers who have been in the business for several years and come to the workshop often find they have to “unlearn” a lot of bad habits, or ways of thinking and that can be hard to do before they even begin learning something new.  So don’t be discouraged if you are earlier on in the career than some of the other students.  Just remember that the workshop will be taught in a way that everyone benefits.  Jerry wouldn't be able to hold the rest of the class back, for example, if you are having trouble with very basic functions of your camera, such as how your aperture and shutter speed work, etc. But if that's not a problem for you, then you could be in a great position to learn about business and wedding photography right from the very beginning.

Absolutely.  The thing to keep in mind about Jerry's workshops is that he will not necessarily be teaching you how to capture candids.  Everything will be about learning to see the light and use it properly when you're doing portraits (whether it's at an actual portrait session or at a wedding), how to pose and direct people, including couples and families and the last two days are spent on business and marketing and also album design.  And all of the principles can be applied to both a wedding or a portrait studio.  The album design portion, for example, is all about how Jerry designs an album very simply and cleanly and how he designs it to maximize sales after the wedding or session over and above what someone may have committed to in a package.  And that also would be helpful in a portrait setting.  We have a good percentage of attendees at our workshops that focus on portrait photography exclusively.  Since many wedding photographers also photograph portraits in addition to weddings, the workshop has been designed to help photographers in both fields.

All members of the Ice Society receive a 10% discount on registration fees to a workshop. You’ll just need to be logged into the Ice Society before registering and the discount will be automatically applied.

A 30% deposit is needed to reserve your seat.  Once your deposit has been made, you can make as many payments (in any increment) by logging into your "My Account" section. Your final balance will be due in its entirety 30 days before the workshop begins.  But we will also send you an email, reminding you what your final balance is, and providing you with a link to make the final payment.

Absolutely.  Many photographers find it help to make smaller payments along the way so that their final balance isn’t quite as large.  You can do that anytime you’d like by going to your "My Account" section and making a payment.

We will always try and accommodate any dietary or medical restrictions.  Please let us know ahead of time what your special needs are by emailing us at info@icesociety.com.  We will also be sure to ask the entire class before we begin of any special needs so that we can make sure everyone is healthy and happy for the entire week!

If you are unable to attend the workshop, you are welcome to send someone in your place, or even sell your spot at the workshop for the same cost that you paid. Unfortunately, deposits are not refundable once they have been paid.

No, the registration fee includes the tuition, model fees and our welcome dinner.  We often are able to negotiate a reduced rate at a nearby hotel and we will be send you all of those details once you have signed up for the workshop.  We’re also able to pair you up with someone else who is coming to the workshop, if you are interested in sharing the cost of a room with someone else.

Most definitely.  Once you have signed up for the workshop, just send us an email at info@icesociety.com and let us know you’d like a roommate.  We’ll put the word out and try to match you up with someone who is coming to the workshop.

It’s a good idea to try and dress comfortably.  There will be two full days of photographing (indoors and outdoors) and we will be doing a lot of walking.  We would suggest dressing comfortably in a way that is suitable for the temperature at that time of year and also highly recommend wearing comfortable shoes.  Remember, though, that the other three days of the workshop will be held in a conference room inside a hotel.  We would recommend dressing in layers since the temperature inside the conference rooms can be a little unpredictable.  We will always do our best to make sure that everyone is comfortable while we are inside, though.

You will only need one camera and we suggest bringing the lens that you typically use the most for a portrait session or a wedding.  Also, a simple point and shoot camera (or a wide angle lens) will also come in handy during the two days that we are photographing our couples.  You will spend quite a bit of time watching Jerry photograph a couple as he explains his thought process behind each step. We always recommend that you take wide angle photographs during those times so that you are able to go back afterwards and remind yourself of where Jerry was standing, where the couple was standing, where the light was coming from, etc.  It is these photos that will be invaluable in helping you recall everything that Jerry was teaching.  Above all, just remember that we will be doing a lot of walking so you will want to travel as light as possible.  You truly do not need all of your gear.  One camera and lens (or two) will be more than enough for you.  Jerry will also spend a bit of time discussing on and off camera flash techniques, but you will not need to bring your own flash.  You will not be asked to use it during the day, although you’re more than welcome to bring if you’d like to practice with it on your own time after the workshop finishes for the day.

You don’t need to bring a laptop if you don’t want to carry one.  We will not be learning about Photoshop or other software programs.  If you use your laptop to take notes, then you are of course more than welcome to bring it.  Most people seem to prefer to bring an iPad or a good old fashioned notebook for notes as well.  There may be times when you will need to download images from your camera, but you will be required to submit he images straight out of camera, with no adjustments.  So you will actually only need a card reader so that Jerry can see what you have done.

Video recording of any part of the workshop is strictly prohibited.  We respectfully ask that you honor our request to never film any part of the workshop, even for your own personal use.  If, however, you would like to use a voice recorder to record your own critique session or your private mentor session, for example, you are more than welcome to do so.

We can definitely help you with that!  Just send us an email at info@icesociety.com and we’ll reply with an answer very soon.
